Then throw in the thrill of catching wild Chinook Salmon (Kings), Coho Salmon (Silvers) and Sockeye Salmon that migrate in huge numbers off the west coast of Vancouver Island. These migratory wild salmon are veracious feeders and gorge themselves on the immense schools of baitfish consisting of krill, herring, needlefish, anchovies and pilchards prior to spawning in their native coastal rivers and streams.

PORT ALBERNI, BAMFIELD, BARKLEY SOUND & THE ALBERNI INLET
Known world wide as “The Salmon Capital of the World”, Port Alberni offers anglers easy access to the amazing Alberni Inlet, Barkley Sound, Bamfield, The Broken Group of Islands and beyond to the open Pacific Ocean. The Alberni Inlet is home to some of the world’s largest salmon runs, numbering well over ONE MILLION fish annually. Port Alberni’s world-renowned Somass and Stamp River systems are home to hundreds of thousands of returning Sockeye Salmon every year. Sockeye Salmon are known the world over as the tastiest of all the five salmon species. This amazing annual event provides an angler with Sockeye Salmon fishing action that one can only dream about.
In Port Alberni, our salmon fishing charter boats regularly hook into as many as 10-25 of these tasty sockeye salmon during most June and July mornings. The powerful Chinook Salmon arrive in the Alberni inlet in huge schools during early summer and on to Port Alberni during the mid to latter part of August and into September. The largest of the five salmon species, the Chinook can be a handful for even the most seasoned salmon angler. Chinooks in the 25-35 lb range return every year by the tens of thousands. Arriving with or just behind the Chinooks are enormous numbers of feisty Coho Salmon. These acrobatic salmon are, pound for pound, one of the most exciting salmon one can hook into. TAHSIS, NOOTKA SOUND, GOLD RIVER & ESPERANZA INLET
Located on the magnificent west coast of Vancouver Island BC, the Village of Tahsis is nestled at the head of the fjord-like Tahsis Inlet. This remote destination offers trophy sport fishing for Chinook salmon that have topped the scales at 50+ lbs! Huge schools of migrating Coho in the 10 to 20 pound range inhabit many of the kelp beds in Nootka Sound. Pound for pound, Coho are considered to be the best fighting of the five species of salmon.
Beginning in mid June, the salmon fishery continues well into September. Feeding on the abundance of krill, herring, needlefish, anchovies and pilchards, these migratory salmon are veracious feeders and pack on the pounds in anticipation of returning to their native rivers and streams to spawn. Abundant Halibut, Red Snapper, Rockfish and Lingcod offer fishing opportunities which have made fishing on Vancouver Island legendary.
The sheltered crystal clear waters of Nootka Sound offers a fishing experience that you will remember for years.
